The network supports the Gender Action Plan (GAP) conducted by the contact point “Women into EU-research” to ensure gender equality in EU-research programmes in the long run. The GAP has started an important and so far unique process of creating awareness for gender equality in research projects.
The request for GAP has led to attention to the gender dimension and increased participation of women scientists in integrated projects and networks of excellence. It compelled applicants to address gender aspects in research and the gender balance in research teams. The need for GAPs also induced a change in communication between scientists and gender equality officers in academic institutions on the national as well as the European level.
